The annual Lutheran Care Family Zone Family Fun Day was another wonderful celebration attracting over 400 people on Wednesday, 15 April.
Designed to bring the community together for a day of free, family-friendly fun during the school holidays, the event featured a visit from everyone’s favourite canine celebrity Bluey, along with performances from magician Ryan Razi, “the hipster trickster”. Families also enjoyed a petting zoo, face painting, glitter tattoos and more. The day also showcased local services and activities available through Family Zone, as well as other Lutheran Care services including positive behaviour support and speech pathology, alongside a range of external service providers.
In addition to free entry, the sausage sizzle, cold drinks and ice-blocks were all free, which was much appreciated by families, many of which are feeling financial pressure from the cost of fuel and other rising costs.
Lutheran Care staff member Larni said, “I had a mother come up to me as she was leaving, thanking Lutheran Care for putting on a free event”.
“She expected there would have been a cost to at least the sausage sizzle or drinks but was shocked to find the event was completely free,” Larni added.
“She said that she has recently stopped working so it was great she could still find something to do with her children to break up the school holidays.”
In addition to the Family Zone team, many Lutheran Care staff from across the wider organisation also attended to help deliver the event and support the local community. Some of the children of Family Zone staff members also came along to volunteer on the day, showing that it’s never too early to start a volunteering journey.
Lutheran Care’s CEO Ian Byrne attended the day, enjoying connecting with staff, volunteers and community members.
The organisers thanked all volunteers and sponsors, and the community for coming out to support the event. Special thanks also to supporting partners The Salvation Army, Salisbury Communities for Children and the Department of Social Services.
