Lutheran Care continues to support women impacted by domestic and family violence through a range of group programs designed to build safety, confidence and connection, with more programs being planned for Murray Bridge and Western Adelaide across the rest of 2026.
Women Are Strong, currently being facilitated in Blair Athol by Kendall Brilleman and Murray Bridge by Bhaama Iyer, is an eight-week support group providing a safe and confidential space for women to explore their experiences and reconnect with their personal strengths.
Through the program, participants have the opportunity to:
- explore the effects of abusive or hurtful relationships
- develop strategies to manage overwhelming emotions
- strengthen personal safety and wellbeing
- reconnect with their resilience and sense of identity.
Participants have described the group as “validating and reassuring”, highlighting the importance of having a safe space to feel heard, understood and supported alongside others with shared experiences.
Aware and Empowered – Domestic Violence Workshop, also being delivered in Murray Bridge by Bhaama Iyer, is a four-week course to support women, including those navigating Child Protection involvement, to build understanding, confidence and practical strategies for safety and wellbeing. Topics include:
- recognising different forms of abuse
- understanding the impacts of violence on women and children
- strengthening boundaries
- supporting parenting in the context of trauma.
Attendees say the workshops helped them recognise behaviours that had previously felt “normal”, gain a clearer understanding of coercive control, and feel safe to share and learn from others. Many leave feeling more informed, supported and better equipped to take steps toward safety and change.
