Lutheran Care’s Toward Home Alliance and Alliance Senior Manager, Shaya Nettle, have been featured in a powerful new article by Senior Journalist Tory Shepherd for The Guardian, highlighting the realities of rough sleeping in Adelaide during the current housing crisis.

The story explores the work of outreach teams supporting people sleeping rough across the city, including the use of Street Connect — a platform that allows community members to alert outreach workers when they are concerned about someone experiencing homelessness.

The article shines a light on the importance of compassion, human connection and long-term housing solutions, while also sharing stories of people who have transitioned from homelessness into stable housing with the right support.

Shaya spoke with The Guardian about the importance of ensuring people experiencing homelessness are “seen” and supported, and the challenges services face amid growing housing pressures.
