Today, on Fathers’ Day (6 September), we’d like to take the time to acknowledge the wonderful Dads and father figures out there who make our communities a better place in helping children and young people thrive and being fabulous role models to all boys and men.
Our Lutheran Care Foster Care Village wouldn’t be the same without the many wonderful foster dads and grandfathers who step in for a child or young person in care. We appreciate you and the time, support and care you give. You might have seen our most recent TV ad for Lutheran Care Foster Care services, called ‘Fort’, where the foster father helps to foster imagination and fun as the foster child and siblings enjoy a wonderful childhood rite of passage of building a cubby in the loungeroom. You can watch it here:
Meanwhile at Family Zone, our parenting and community hub located at Ingle Farm Primary School, empowering and supporting Dads continues to be an important part of our focus.
Starting Thursday, 22 October 2026, Dads Matter is a six-week program designed to support fathers and father figures in developing practical tools to build and strengthen positive relationships with their children. The program explores child development, attachment, and emotional wellbeing, helping participants better understand their child’s needs at different stages of development. Through discussion and shared learning, fathers gain insight into the important role they play within the family, while building confidence, connection, and effective parenting strategies that support healthy family relationships. It runs from 4pm-6pm on Thursdays. For information or to sign up, contact Family Zone.
Another Family Zone program we gladly welcome dads to attend is Bringing Up Great Kids, which is a six-week program running on Wednesdays starting 21 October. The course supports parents in creating mindful, nurturing, and positive relationships. Topics include: Parenting styles and communication, brain development and emotional responses, positive self-identity in children and reflection and self-care strategies. A Crèche is available.
The Men’s Support Hub runs at Family Zone on alternate Thursdays, from 3pm-5pm, starting 21 October and continuing 5/11, 19/11, and 3/12. The Men’s Support Hub provides an informal and welcoming space for men to connect and explore practical strategies for strengthening relationships with their children, partners, family members, and themselves. Participants can build social connections, improve wellbeing, and access support in a safe, respectful environment. Individualised one-on-one support is available to address personal goals and challenges.
Family Zone is also welcoming registrations for our upcoming Circle of Security program – Dads are very welcome! To register interest, please call 8349 6099. Crèche is available for all parenting programs. Bookings essential
So, to the lovely dads and father figures in our Lutheran Care team, including staff, our volunteer base, and also our supporters – Happy Fathers’ Day. We hope you enjoy it – thanks for everything you do.
