Lutheran Care’s foster village celebrates largest Christmas party yet

The festive season is a time for joy, togetherness and gratitude and in the spirit of celebrating the tireless efforts of Foster and Kinship Carers, Lutheran Care recently hosted its foster family Christmas party at Kings Reserve in Torrensville.

The event was the largest Christmas party to date with over 260 people attending, including fostering families, their support networks and Lutheran Care Foster Care staff. It was a truly special day with many unforgettable memories made.

Lutheran Care highly values events as a way to offer all kinds of carers and their families opportunities to form peer connections and facilitate safe spaces for children and young people to enjoy a range of tailored activities to suit different sensory and accessibility needs.

The sprawling grounds of Torrensville Kings Reserve transformed into a festive wonderland on the day of the event. Multiple food trucks lined the venue, so there was an amazing array of food and beverages for all to enjoy.

The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and joy as attendees engaged in various activities, including rock climbing, patting animals at the mini farm and participating in the rhythmic beats of African drumming.

One of the highlights of the day was the special visit from Santa, who spread cheer to excited children and young people. The magic of Christmas was truly alive as families came together to celebrate in an inclusive environment.

As always, Lutheran Care encouraged Foster Carers to extend invitations to their own family support networks. This is key to allowing children and young people to form connections, create happy memories and be cared for by familiar faces. This is one of the ways Lutheran Care facilitates spaces for our community of Foster Carers to ‘Be the Village’.

The event also featured a special Welcome to Country by Robert Taylor, a proud Narungga and Ngarrindjeri man, who also gave a spectacular Yidaki performance.

As part of the Christmas celebration, Lutheran Care ensured that every carer household received thoughtful gifts as a token of gratitude for the extraordinary ways in which they enrich the lives of children and young people. Families had the choice of one of three family gift options that would best support their family to celebrate the festive season. Lutheran Care are strong advocates for personalised and quality carer support and allowing families to choose what suits them is just another way we ensure that carers are supported in meaningful ways.

The Christmas party was a great way to celebrate another year, and the invaluable contributions of all carers.
