Lutheran Care’s work with vulnerable South Australians has been boosted by a generous donation from Torrens Transit.

Many know Torrens Transit as a leader in South Australian public transport, operating Adelaide’s East–West, North–South, Outer North-East and Outer North bus routes. But what you might not know about, is the organisation’s commitment to sustainability and enhancing the liveability of the communities it serves.

Reflecting this commitment, Torrens Transit chose Lutheran Care as one of two local charities to be recipients of funds raised at the business’s Annual Dinner on Saturday, 12 July. The event celebrated 25 years of service, recognised the dedication of its outstanding team, and highlighted the importance of giving back to the community.

It was predetermined that funds raised at the event would be shared evenly between Lutheran Care and Torrens Transit’s other chosen charity, Catherine House.

Thanks to the generosity of the Torrens Transit team and supporters, about $17,000 was raised through fundraising activities on the night. Torrens Transit matched this amount dollar for dollar, bringing the total contribution to $34,035.

Torrens Transit were thrilled to donate a total of $17,017.70 to support Lutheran Care’s vital community services.

“Torrens Transit is more than just a bus operator; we are deeply committed to the sustainability and liveability of the communities we connect,” said Torrens Transit Managing Director Andrew Jenkinson.

“We are incredibly grateful for the hard work of our team and supporters whose generosity allowed us to contribute to the vital programs run by both Lutheran Care and Catherine House.

“We are privileged to play a role in strengthening their impact, especially in the face of ongoing cost-of-living and housing pressures,” he said.

Lutheran Care’s Head of Public Relations, Katrina Ranford, thanked Torrens Transit for selecting Lutheran Care as a charity of choice for the event.

“Partnerships with corporate leaders like Torrens Transit mean the impact of our work can be amplified,” Ms Ranford said.

“Every day, our teams continue to see the impact of cost of living, housing, and mental health and wellbeing pressures in the communities we serve.

“This $17,000 will help us fund integral programs such as emergency relief, to enable families have essentials such as food, clothing and hygiene items, and referrals to ongoing supports such as financial counselling, counselling and homelessness services, to help more South Australian families go from surviving to thriving.”
