This International Women’s Day (March 8), Lutheran Care is sharing inspirational stories from five incredible women we have working in our organisation.
Building on from a series of profiles last year, the features we have published in 2025 offer just a small insight into the many stories from across our strong female workforce.
Today you will hear from Lutheran Care’s:
International Women’s Day is a global movement to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, as well as a call to action for all people to demand and action gender equality. This year’s UN theme is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
It urges us all to reflect on who around us are not having a fair go. How can we use our privilege to raise our voices and amplify theirs, share our knowledge and platforms, build others up and bring them along for the ride, to empower future generations with the tools and knowledge they need to continue our work breaking and rewriting the systems that reinforce inequality. What can you do to make things more fair? What can you do to challenge a system that still puts people in boxes and where many within our communities do not have a chance to fulfil the potential they’re born with because of birthrights such as colour, gender, geography, or faith?
We’ve put a series of questions around International Women’s Day to these five Lutheran Care women and appreciate the insights they have shared.
We hope you enjoy the following Q and As with our team, and join us as we celebrate all women on International Women’s Day 2025. Please click the links below to read the full stories.

I know that women around the world have vastly different experiences, but when I look at the young women in my life, like my daughter and her friends, I love how they challenge outdated social expectations and biases.

As a proud ‘Nanny’ to my beautiful granddaughter, my greatest hope is that we continue to advocate for women everywhere, to ensure they can succeed, survive, and thrive in every aspect of life – whether at home, in their careers, or within their communities.
Principal Aboriginal Advisor, Charmayne Fleming
I would like to emphasise the importance of solidarity and allyship in the fight for gender equality. It is crucial for all of us, regardless of gender or cultural background, to work together to create a more just and equitable world. By supporting and uplifting each other, we can make significant strides towards achieving true equality and empowerment for all women and girls.
Blair Athol Receptionist / Emergency Relief, Debra Elliott
What I would say to anyone is, if you love your job, you will never work another day. Always love and respect yourself. Smile at someone every day; you never know someone’s story, and you just never know, they might smile back…
Elcies Allied Health Speech Pathologist, Jurida Pali
…there are so many women that inspire me in many different ways; from women in my own family, women I have surrounded myself with, women in my workplace, to women across the world and centuries who changed the world of science, medicine, literature, art, politics etc….
