Lutheran Care is excited to launch its 2025 Lenten Appeal today and is encouraging people to create a ripple of kindness in their own communities over the next few months.
With a rapidly increasing number of people needing support right now, we are hoping the local South Australian community can rally around their neighbours to help break the cycle of hardship and give hope to families who need it the most.
Families like Jane’s*.
As a first-time mum, Jane* had imagined motherhood as a time of love, joy and new beginnings. Instead, she was trapped in a nightmare with a violent and vicious partner.
Her partner’s frequent outbursts—both physical and psychological—left her frozen in fear. The extreme financial and coercive control he exerted over her made escape feel impossible. Jane feared for her life and, most of all, for the life of her precious baby girl.
“What should have been one of the happiest moments of my life was instead filled with monstrous abuse and gripping fear,” Jane told us.
Desperate to rebuild her life and protect her child, Jane was referred to Lutheran Care’s Family Zone. Our staff took immediate action to help Jane and assessed her immediate and ongoing needs.
Thanks to the generosity from Lutheran Care supporters, we were able to give Jane nutritious food from our Emergency Relief pantry, as well as referrals to life-changing programs like counselling and parenting courses.

Right now, there are so many people like Jane who are desperate for a fresh start, safety and stability.
With your generous support this Lent, you can help families in crisis by providing critical food relief so no one goes hungry; bedding and clothing to keep people warm and safe; access to healthcare and essential services; transport, supermarket and op shop vouchers; and referral to life-changing programs — including financial counselling, family violence support, homelessness services and parenting programs.

“Without the kindness of Lutheran Care, I wouldn’t have found my way. I wouldn’t have been able to give my baby girl the safe, loving start in life she deserves,” Jane said.
